New Patient Commitment Form
Please read this FIRST. This form explains what you can expect as a patient of Barger Chiropractic of Folsom and how you can increase your benefits from the chiropractic treatments.
Your health is tied directly to your own individual responsibility. At Barger Chiropractic of Folsom, we offer help and support to you as you work to overcome pain and other chronic health issues. However, the ultimate accountability is yours. You are responsible for your compliance with recommendations for necessary chiropractic adjustments, diet and exercise and stress-reduction.
Many people assume chiropractic is a one- or two-time treatment and their problems will magically disappear. More often than not, that is not how it works, especially with long-term and chronic health issues. It took you so many years to get to this place, it may take awhile to get your back to optimum health. Especially with chronic pain and certain musculoskeletal problems, it is necessary to work with the doctor to put into practice a variety of lifestyle changes for the adjustments to ‘take’. If you were told the ‘chiropractic should work on the first visit or it won’t work at all’, you have been misled and we encourage you to ‘adjust’ your thinking to consider otherwise.
Many times, chiropractic adjustments take hold after 5-10 treatments, that is, the joints and vertebras are ’retrained’ to remain in the correct position, depending on your condition and circumstances. Most (but not all) people get significant pain relief after the first visit, but for chronic conditions, you should expect healing to take more time (and yes, that does mean more visits.)
These are the steps you need to take for the greatest benefit from your chiropractic visit with Dr. Barger:
1. Consistent Treatment – For your first visit we get a full history and do a full exam to determine how often and how many times you need treatment for optimum improvement. Dr. Barger asks that you commit to the recommended treatment plan and make your appointments a top priority. Chiropractic care works best when the adjustments are consistent and progressive.
2. Exercise 3-5 times per week – Walk, stretch, bike, do yoga; any and all exercise which you can enjoy on a regular basis. And you can vary the exercise from day to day so you don’t become bored. Dr. Barger will also provide a series of exercises tailored to your particular health issue that can strengthen the muscles around the affected area and maximizes your healing time.
3. Eat Organic Whole Foods – One of the best ways to help with your own health and heal many kinds of chronic problems is to change your diet to whole, organic and raw foods. Go with the low-and unprocessed foods which have more of the original nutrients and health benefits.
4. Willing to change habits – After hundreds of patients and many years of chiropractic service at Barger Chiropractic of Folsom, we have found our patients get better faster and stay well if they can follow the recommendations for their health. This sometimes means they have to stop doing things they have done a certain way, to doing in another. This could mean beginning an exercise program and sticking with it, or not eating fast food (or changing the kind of fast food) as often during the week and starting your day with a healthy breakfast.
Chiropractic care can do some amazing things, if you are willing to take steps to help with your own health. We ask that you do your best to follow the guidelines and recommendations to gain the full benefit from your chiropractic visits with Dr. Barger.
We have found that patients who have improved the most are:
Willing to take personal responsibility for their health. They do not expect a magic adjustment that can miraculously cure their health problems.
Interested in working with the doctor to make permanent changes to their lifestyles through healthy eating and exercise.
Are willing and happy to make the recommended changes to improve their health and well-being.
Value their health above and beyond what is covered by their insurance company.
Commit to the recommended treatment schedule and keep the appointments because they value their health and well-being, and know how important chiropractic care is for them.
Are eager and willing to learn more about taking care of their health for the long-term.
